Green Sheep

Do your kids have a favourite bedtime story?
The current favourite bedtime story in our house would definitely be
"Where Is the Green Sheep" by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek
To add a little something fun and different to this much-loved story, I decided a small prop was needed.
Green Sheep is my very first attempt at a small crocheted creature.
He's a bit squishy and not perfect,
but I think he is just right for a little 2 yr old to hold while we read the story.
The opportunities for finding the Green Sheep around our home are becoming an endless list in my mind.
I know the Green Sheep is going to be an excellent distraction if little Miss Evie is having one of
'those 2 yr old moments'.

Blueberry Pikelets

I  do my very best to encourage my girls to eat healthy food as often as possible.
I usually add good/healthy ingredients into treat-y food.
They are into pancakes (as they call them) at the moment.
Technically these pancakes are pikelets.

Pikelets

Preparation time: 10 mins
Total cooking time:15 mins
Makes: approx 16 pikelets

Ingredients:
1 cup self-raising flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
1/2 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice
1/2 - 3/4 cup milk
1 egg, lightly beaten
30grams butter, melted
extra melted butter

Method:
1. Sift flour, sugar, and bicarb into a medium-sized bowl. Add juice/vinegar to the milk to sour it; allow to stand for 5 minutes.
2. Make a well in the centre of dry ingredients, add egg, 1/2 cup milk and the melted butter. Mix to form a smooth batter. If the batter is too thick to pour from the spoon, add remaining milk.
** this is where I add a handful of frozen blueberries and gently stir to mix through.
3. Drop 1-2 tablespoons of mixture into the base of a greased pan, about 2cm apart. Cook over medium heat for 1 minute or until the underside is golden brown. Turn pikelets over and cook for 1 minute. Remove from pan.
4. Enjoy your pikelets on their own or serve with butter and jam.

A Thrifty Find

of the fate-ful kind....
I have been thinking and pondering the idea of making one of these for a couple of weeks now.
The thought of cutting and ironing a whole lot of material was putting me off a little.
I popped into the local opp-shop last week for a quick look, and my-oh-my,
I had to muffle my squeal of delight when I saw this
all ready, all cut, all joined into long lengths!
I truly trust the Universe.
They are of the jersey/knit type fabric and are quite narrow, which I think may be a good thing being that this will be my first attempt at crocheting a rag rug.
I'm telling myself to be patient - I have a small pile of unfinished projects to complete before I start this one.

It's chilly outside....

but this is where I've spent my Saturday afternoon;
Enjoying 2 of my favourite things,
and unwinding in preparation for Mother's Day tomorrow.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful Mum's out there!

Inside My Caravan

This is what my caravan renovation looks like on the inside so far.....
As you can see I have removed most of the panels from the walls and doors from the cupboards.
There is still a lot more to do!
It is already looking much better without the interesting wood panelling!

I usually have my little helper with me while I work, so to keep the little helper occupied I set up play things outside on the grass - but it's not long before the little helper continually needs or wants something and I have to stop and start!
I'm hoping that my little helper will be occupied over the weekend by her doting Dad (he has a couple of much needed days off ), which will hopefully allow me to get some work done - uninterrupted!

The blue tarp that is covering the broken window has been finally removed - we now have a brand new window!
